The Mount - Edith Wharton Restoration - located in Lenox, Massachusetts was designed and built by Wharton in 1901-02
as an architectural expression of the order, scale, and harmony that she advocated in her first book,
The Decoration of Houses (1897), co-authored with architect Ogden Codman. In designing The
Mount, Wharton also collaborated with architect Francis L.V. Hoppin and with her niece,
landscape gardener Beatrix Farrand.
The Music Inn - In fact, for nearly thirty years, from
1950 to 1979, just down the road
from Tanglewood, was a place
dedicated to the presentation and
perpetuation of the American --
particularly the African-American --
musical tradition.
