Peru, Massachusetts - Northern Berkshire Township No. 2, Partridgefield, was
purchased by Governor Francis Bernard, Oliver Partridge
and Elisha Jones as land speculation in 1762. It was
divided into 63 settling lots and incorporated in 1771.
Pittsfield, Massachusetts - THE, boundary line between
New York State and Berkshire,
our western border-land, rests
on the summits of the Taconics
for fifty-one miles; Berkshire's
bounds north and east touch
here and there the ragged
Hoosacs, whilst Pittsfield, the county-seat, is seated, in high
state between, one thousand and thirteen feet above
tide-water--commanding a marvellous perspective of a thousand
hills.
